Thursday Night Run in UP

The 15K Mizuno Infinity Run left me quite sore and it took me 3 days to recover from it. Because I took a bit longer than usual to recover, I did not run until the Thursday after. The exciting thing about it was that a few of my officemates had also planned to run in UP that night, as the day after was a holiday.

It took us an hour just to get to UP because of the terrible traffic that night. We did our own stretching exercises and walked for about 10 minutes to warm up. And then, we were off!

Jen and I went ahead as we had planned to do a tempo run. The goal was to run 3 rounds around the oval in under 14 minutes for each round. We were able to the first 2 rounds within our target. The last round was quite difficult. It seemed that the battle was in the mind as my whole body was telling me to slack off and give up. I just told myself to keep on going. I was actually talking out loud telling myself to finish the 3 rounds without letting up on speed and effort.

I finished with a time of 39:26. I know I there were times before when I did much better, but lately it’s been quite difficult finding the time to run. Way back in February this year, my fastest time for 3 rounds around the oval was 36:20. Anyway, this particular run made me feel good. I also felt the strain in my legs. It’s no use thinking about the past I guess. I’ve got to work with what I’ve got in the present.

It was great having new running buddies around. I hope they too pick up the love for running.

Nice tempo run there! Always fun to run with new running buddies. Hey, join the takbo.ph team for our forum-organized runs, you'll get to run with so many more like-minded people. We had a 25k training run last night at Mckinley, pretty big group featuring runners of different pace levels so you'll always be with someone. See you sometime!

Cheers,
Luis
